🇨🇦 Canada Strong Pass Extended for the Christmas Season

OTTAWA — October 12, 2025:
In a move that’s being welcomed by families and travellers across the country, the federal government has announced the extension of the Canada Strong Pass through the Christmas holiday season.

The popular initiative — which offers discounted access to national museums, parks, and Via Rail services — was initially set to expire in mid-November. However, with the festive season approaching, Ottawa confirmed that the program will continue through January 5, 2026, allowing more Canadians to explore the country affordably.

“This extension ensures that Canadians can celebrate the holidays by reconnecting with our history, our landscapes, and one another,” said Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge in a statement. “It’s about accessibility, family connection, and national pride.”

🎟️ What the Pass Includes

The Canada Strong Pass provides:

50% discounts on Via Rail tickets across select routes, including Toronto–Montréal, Vancouver–Edmonton, and Halifax–Québec City.

Free or reduced admission to national museums and heritage sites, such as the Canadian Museum of History, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Royal BC Museum.

Family packages that include travel and cultural experiences bundled together for up to 4 members.

🚆 Encouraging Domestic Travel

Via Rail has also expressed support for the extension, saying that it expects a surge in holiday travel as families take advantage of the program.

“This initiative is helping Canadians rediscover their country by rail,” said Cynthia Garneau, President and CEO of Via Rail.

The Canada Strong Pass has been described by many as a “feel-good” initiative that strengthens national unity and supports tourism recovery. Many local attractions have reported higher attendance and renewed enthusiasm from both residents and tourists.

Families can apply or renew their Canada Strong Pass online through the official Government of Canada portal or directly at participating museum and travel outlets.
