OTTAWA — Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has unveiled a new petition urging Canadians to support his call to eliminate what he describes as “billion-dollar DEI bureaucracies” within the federal government.
In a statement released on October 13, 2025, Poilievre said that government spending on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives has grown excessively, claiming it wastes taxpayer money while failing to deliver measurable benefits to Canadians.
“Canadians are struggling with the cost of living, housing, and healthcare, yet this government continues to pour billions into divisive DEI departments and consultants,” Poilievre said. “It’s time to end this waste and focus on results that matter to working Canadians.”
The petition, titled “DEI Spending and Government Waste Needs to DIE,” calls for a full audit and rollback of federal DEI programs. According to Poilievre, the funds should instead be redirected toward “essential services and economic growth initiatives.”
Critics, however, argue that DEI programs are crucial for ensuring representation and fairness within workplaces and institutions, and that cutting such programs could reverse years of progress toward inclusion and equality.
The debate over DEI spending has become a flashpoint in Canadian politics, reflecting broader ideological divisions on how public funds should be managed.
The petition is now live on Conservative.ca, where supporters are encouraged to sign and share their backing for the proposal.
